A Journey of Healing and Balance with the Hermetic Principles
The 7 Natural Laws, also known as the 7 Hermetic Principles, describe how our Universe works. These laws are described in the Kybalion, which has mysterious origins, having been authored by the Three Initiates.
The knowledge in The Kyablion comes from ancient Egypt. The Three Initiates state that the teachings in the Kybalion come from Hermes Trisgestimus. Hermes Trismegistus was said to be the Egyptian god Thoth, who was tasked with being the “scribe to the gods.”
The 7 Natural Laws, or the 7 Hermetic Principles, are set of rules that govern how this universe and reality work. These laws define a matrix in which our reality can exist. Let’s explore these ancient principles and how we can apply this ancient knowledge to our lives. By exploring these laws, we can use this precious, ancient knowledge to heal ourselves naturally.
Let’s explore each of the Hermetic Laws.

I. The Principle of Mentalism
“The All is Mind” is the law that lets us know that the reality we live in is created consciously and exists within the mind of a being much more significant than we can comprehend as humans.
The Principle of Mentalism teaches us that a conscious, all-knowing mind creates the Universe. In our plane of existence, our minds create our worlds. What this means for you is that your mind creates your reality. This means that your mind can also create a situation that you may find more favorable. With my clients, I can remind them that they can work with their minds to create healing in any situation they desire.
Working with Your Mind
Our thoughts can be powerful tools for healing or can be a force of self-destruction. It is important to be aware of the content of your thoughts. If your thoughts are focused on what you lack, your perception will be focused on what is missing in your life. It takes a conscious effort to be aware of your thoughts, and to change the content of what you are thinking in order to feel better.
Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of the content of your thoughts. It allows you to work with your mind, develop awareness of your thoughts, and improve the quality of your thoughts.

II. The Principle of Correspondence

The 2nd law, “as above, so below, as below, so above,” can be seen as what happens in this plane of existence happens on other planes of existence and that each plane of existence influences each other.
The Principle of Correspondence means that what we experience in the “here and now” reflects what is happening in the heavens and in Mother Earth. If we feel unwell, this unwellness is happening in other planes of existence. Likewise, we can tap into Universal energy and Mother Earth to heal ourselves. “As above, so below, so below, as above” is comforting because we can access knowledge and wisdom from these higher and lower realms to heal right now. We can use the principle of correspondence to heal by requesting help from other realms.
Working with Correspondance
“As above, so below” reminds us that how we treat our bodies reflects how we treat our planet. When we make better choices about what goes into our bodies, we are also making better choices for the planet.
Making better choices about the products you choose is one way to apply this law. I recommend Rasa, a company that creates coffee alternatives using adaptogens, as one place to start.

III. The Principle of Vibration
According to the Principle of Vibration, everything in existence is in motion. If we are sitting still, our hearts continue to beat, our lungs breath, and the cells of the body continue to do their work. If a disease is present, it is not permanent. The disease can be reversed using knowing that the cells of our bodies are in constant motion.
Your mind and body are dynamic, constantly moving entities. This means that using movement in a healthy way can help your mind and body heal.
How to Use The Principle of Vibration
You can use your body’s natural motion to change the vibration of your mind. If you are feeling tired, a gentle Yoga practice can restore your energy. If you are feeling restless in the mind, a Mindful walk can change your vibration.
IV. The Principle of Polarity

The fourth principle, the principle of polarity, describes how all things have poles or aspects of themselves that are opposing. This principle states that there are two sides to everything. There are no real absolutes. This means if one state exists, the opposite of this state exists as well. If a client wants to heal something, such as pain, realize that the opposite of pain also exists in this person. The healing that occurs can be thought of as moving the client from a state of pain to a state of feeling good.
How to Work with the Principle of Polarity
It’s tempting to see a situation as all or none. It takes quieting the mind and becoming centered to see that any situation is just one side.
In this podcast, we work with polarity; This is a journaling exercise you can try to feel what you have become polarized, and what is really true in your life:

V. The Principle of Rhythm
The principle of rhythm states that there is flow, from one direction to the next, similar to a pendulum. Our bodies have rhythm, just like the earth and the cosmos. Honoring the natural rhythms of our bodies allows for healing. With myself and my clients, this means acknowledging when we feel good and when we are tired. When the energy is high, make positive changes while resting when energy is low.
There is a rhythm, and in our lives we know that our bodies have a rhythm, that we have a rhythm that we as humans experience is a circadian rhythm the 24 hours that syncs us with the rise of the Sun, in the setting of the Sun, that our bodies naturally will want to sleep at certain times and want to be awake at certain times. There are monthly rhythms, for women who are in a reproductive states, there is a rhythm to the body’s energy and functioning depending on what part of their cycles they are in.
Honoring your body’s rhythms start with recognizing when you feel best, when you feel the most tired. Understanding the rhythm of your appetite means eating when your body truly desires food. Tapping in to your body’s natural rhythms allows you to heal.
Working with the Principle of Rhythm
Your breath is one of your body’s natural metronomes. Tuning in to the rhythm of your breath calms the mind and the body.
VI. The Principle of Cause and Effect

The principle of cause and effect states that there is no coincidence, luck, or even miracles. When we witness one of these, it’s simply that the cause is not observed, only the effect. When someone is experiencing something painful, such as a diagnosis of cancer, this law may be the most difficult but also the most powerful to work with, rather than “why me”, adopting the attitude that the cause of the terrible diagnosis is present but difficult to discern. This can be empowering, as this gives the person to steps they can take to heal.
According to the sixth law, there is no luck of chance. There are simply outcomes in which we fail to understand the cause.
Working with Cause and Effect
Reiki uses the intention of healing for the receiver. Awareness of your actions helps you connect to what the effect is you desire. This may show up in your life as mindful listening, in which you engage in conversations with awareness of your thoughts and intention in the conversation. Mindful eating lets you engage in the cause of eating, and the effect eating has on your body. This is especially helpful for someone who is working with healing digestive issues.

VII. The Principle of Gender
The seventh law, the law of gender, states that all things have a masculine and feminine aspect. This can be seen in science, engineering, biology, and construction. Gender implies that the feminine is more receptive, creative, and nurturing. Masculine gender implies activating, seeking, and being transformational.
The principle of gender states that all things have a masculine and a feminine energy. I interpret this as a receptive and active state. In our healing journeys, active healing may involve getting more exercise, while more receptive healing may involve receiving Reiki.
Working with The Principle of Gender
The Kybalion states that the discussion of gender concerns the energy of gender, not the sexuality aspect. The hormones that define gender are present in both male and female. Our gender determines what the balance of these hormones should be.

Ancient Knowledge for Modern Times
The knowledge in The Kybalion still applies to us in modern times. We sense these natural laws in our lives on a regular basis. We simply have to open our minds to how these law impact us.
You can listen to the podcast above to journey through the natural laws. I encourage you to read the entire text as well.
