Reiki is a powerful healing tool that works all by itself to heal stress, illness, and energy blockages. Reiki can be augmented by adding other healing tools. A favorite addition to Reiki is using crystals to enhance energy flow during Reiki.
Although I am not a crystal healer, I have used crystals in my Reiki practice for several years. I have found that certain crystals help when I’m practicing on myself as well as working with my clients.
You can’t make a mistake when selecting crystals to use with your Reiki practice, but some working knowledge of certain crystal properties can help when you start selecting which crystals you will add to your practice.
Choosing Your Crystals
When choosing crystals, your inner guidance is the best. It is tempting to buy as many crystals as you can afford, but I recommend starting with only a few crystals and working with their energy. The crystals recommended in this article are good crystals to start your journey with crystals.
Caring For Your Crystals
Crystals require care. Some crystals can be cleaned in water. Other crystals (such as pyrite and selenite) can be damaged by water. Some crystals can be energetically charged by the sun, while others should not be exposed to direct sunlight.
I recommend shopping in a store with trusted advisors on how to care for the crystals you’ve purchased.
There are 5 crystals I use frequently in my Reiki practice depending on my energy. I also use different crystals if I’m practicing on myself or others.
Rose Quartz

According to The Book of Stones, rose quartz is associated with “love, gentleness, emotional healing, release of stress, uniting with the Divine.” When practicing Reiki on myself, I often need to forgive myself and practice self-compassion. The pink color of rose quartz naturally helps us to feel more love and compassion.
You can hold rose quartz in one or both hands at the start of your Reiki session. Once you feel the energy flow, set the rose quartz aside or keep it near yourself or your client’s auric field.
You can also place Rose Quartz on your chest during a Reiki session if you are lying down. Resting the rose quartz on your chest can help you tune into your heart chakra.
Citrine

Citrine is an activating crystal. The energy of citrine tends to raise and accelerate energy flow. Citrine is associated with the solar plexus chakra. Citrine is wonderful for clearing blockages in areas in which energy is stagnant. You can place a citrine on the area of energy blockage on yourself or your client, and you may notice energy begin to flow more evenly in this area.
I keep a rough Citrine near my healing space. I don’t directly handle the citrine, but its energy helps alleviate depression in the area it rests in.
Quartz

Quartz is an excellent crystal to get started with. The clear color of quartz has an energy of clarifying. I use quartz with Reiki to help clear my mind and thoughts, particularly during times of stress. I also like to use quartz when meditating and encouraging guidance from my angel and spirit guides.
You can place quartz on any chakra to clear stagnant energy. Quartz can also balance energies within the mind and body.
Hematite

Hematite is a black crystal that tends to be dense and heavy. Hematite is wonderful for grounding and protecting your energy. I place hematite near my feet when clearing my energy with Reiki. Hematite is excellent to protect your energy throughout the day as well. Placing hematite near the entrance of your healing space to protect the space from undesirable low energies from entering your space.
Tiger’s Eye

Tiger’s eye is my personal favorite for daily use. Tiger’s eye is beautiful, and what I’ve made jewelry from. Tiger’s eye helps improve your overall energy while calming nervous energy. Tiger’s Eye is a great workweek crystal to keep near where you need to be productive. Holding a Tiger’s eye before a Reiki session can help balance your energy without overpowering you.
