What 3 Things Do We Look for When Shopping for Essential Oils?

Amy started by emphasizing the importance of authenticity when purchasing essential oils. The oils should come from a living plant and not synthetic imitations. She provided practical advice for selecting the best essential oils, such as checking for the Latin name, location, and extraction method of the oil. She even shared a unique smell test tip: high-quality oil should smell different when taken from the bottle and checked for a change in scent.

Are Essential Oils Safe for Children and Pets?

Many people want to help their children and pets. Essential oils can safely be used in adults, but Amy reminds us that children and pets have different bodies.

Amy’s advice is to avoid using essential oils in babies younger than 7 years old and to use the expertise of an aromatherapist.

Amy recommends against using essential oils on pets because of their concentrated nature. Amy notes that pets may accidentally ingest the essential oils. Cats in particular, are not able to break down the oils and they can prove toxic.

Are There Any Essential Oils that are Unsafe to Keep at Home?

According to Amy, there are several essential oils that are best left to experts such as Amy, and should not be kept in the home. These are:

  • Tarragon
  • Mugwort
  • White Sage
  • Thuja

She recommends cautious use of rosemary, lavender, Chamomille, Eucalyptus, and Citrus oils as they can induce sensitivity.

Amy reminds us that essential oils should all be used with respect and caution due to the concentrated nature of the oils.
